    Vol. 8 No. 2 (2025)

The latest issue of the Journal of Equity in Sciences and Sustainable Development (Vol. 8, Issue 2, 2025) published a diverse collection of studies addressing environmental management, agriculture, biodiversity, culture, and socio-economic development in Ethiopia. Key contributions include assessments of natural radioactivity in groundwater, the dynamics of wetlands and biodiversity in the Bale eco-region, and the role of farmers’ socioeconomic factors in watershed conservation. Agricultural research highlights eco-friendly innovations, such as biofertilizers from Rhizobium isolates, antifungal traits of Bacillus spp., and the combined use of vermi-compost and mineral fertilizers to enhance crop yields. These studies not only contribute to improving agricultural productivity but also offer sustainable solutions for ecological resilience.

Beyond agriculture and ecosystems, the issue emphasizes the significance of cultural and policy dimensions in sustainable development. One paper reviews Oromo traditional ecological knowledge as a foundation for conservation, while a brief policy explores heritage conservation as a driver of sustainable tourism in southeastern Ethiopia. Urban and economic themes are also addressed through studies on public–private partnerships in Addis Ababa’s housing sector, the impact of urban planning on preschool infrastructure, and the effects of food price inflation on household food security. Collectively, the articles highlight the interconnectedness of environmental stewardship, cultural values, and socio-economic policies in promoting resilience and sustainability.

    Vol. 8 No. 1 (2025)

The Journal of Equity in Sciences and Sustainable Development published its Vol 8 Issue 1, featuring a diverse array of research manuscripts that tackle significant sustainable development issues. One notable study explores teachers’ awareness and integration of artificial intelligence technology in Ethiopian higher education, specifically within English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes at Ambo University. This research underscores AI's critical role in enhancing teaching methodologies and learning outcomes. Additionally, an assessment of elemental compositions in the soils of Hakim Gara Quarry using instrumental neutron activation analysis provides valuable insights into soil quality, with implications for environmental and agricultural practices. The issue also examines the impact of television advertisement celebrity endorsements on domestic tourists' intentions to visit Arba Minch, illustrating the interplay between marketing and tourism in Ethiopia.

Further contributions include a systematic literature review of blended learning models in higher education institutions post-COVID-19, reflecting on the evolving educational landscape during and after the pandemic. The analysis of freshman program dynamics at Haramaya and Dire Dawa Universities offers insights into student experiences and institutional responses. Moreover, studies on the physical properties of bricks made from sustainable materials and the development of a named entity recognition model for Ethiopian languages highlight advancements in both construction and natural language processing. The issue also addresses the effect of social media on customer trust and decision-making behavior in the hotel industry, along with a holistic perspective on educational quality, emphasizing its concepts, indicators, and contributions to societal development. Together, these studies enhance the understanding of educational practices and sustainable development in Ethiopia.
